City Councilman Evan Stoner is raising concerns about an apartment complex's security issues

How do we fight for those who feel they don't have a voice? Evan Stoner paves a path for us all.

The Meranda apartment complex in downtown Jeffersonville is facing serious safety concerns, according to Councilman Evan Stoner. Residents—many of whom are low-income seniors, grandparents, and veterans—have reported ongoing issues including unauthorized entry, drug activity, physical assaults, theft, and intimidation.

A major point of concern is the lack of on-site security. The building’s security operations have reportedly been outsourced out of state, leaving the front security station empty and relying on remote monitoring to call 911 when problems are suspected. Critics argue this creates dangerous delays and leaves vulnerable residents unprotected.

The building’s ownership group, based out of Denver, is being accused of failing to uphold commitments made when they took over the property—specifically, ensuring a safe and secure living environment. Local officials and community members are now pushing for accountability, stronger oversight, and immediate improvements to protect residents.

This episode of Project Next dives into the situation, amplifies resident concerns, and explores what needs to happen next to ensure safety and dignity for those who call the Meranda home.

The councilman is hosting a community meeting on April 23 at 6:00 pm at the Community Action Building in Jeff. All are welcome.
